The Eli Farah American Legion Post 70 is a proud part of the American Legion, one of the nation’s largest veteran service organizations. Located in our community, this post is dedicated to honoring and supporting those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Named after Eli Farah, a hero who demonstrated bravery and commitment to his country, Post 70 offers a place where veterans and their families can connect, share experiences, and receive support. The post also works to serve the local community through events, outreach programs, and initiatives that promote patriotism and service. Whether it’s through helping veterans in need, organizing community activities, or mentoring young leaders, Eli Farah American Legion Post 70 stands as a beacon of honor, unity, and service for all.

POST COMMANDER

M. Charlene Stroud

Marie Charlene Stroud is a retired member of the South Carolina Army National Guard with more than two decades of honorable and dedicated service. She served from November 1988 to August 2016, including deployments in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Before joining the military, Stroud worked as a licensed nurse. She chose to serve so she could fulfill her duty as a caregiver and provide medical support to wounded service members. Throughout her military career, she upheld that mission with compassion, courage, and professionalism. Beyond her service in uniform, Marie Charlene Stroud has remained deeply committed to supporting veterans and giving back to her community. Her life reflects a strong devotion to helping others and honoring those who served.

 

POST VIC COMMANDER

Eric Valiante

Eric Valiante proudly serves as the Vice Commander of the American Legion Eli Farah Post 70. A U.S. Navy veteran, Eric served from 1980 to 1984 and achieved the rank of Petty Officer Third Class (PO4). During his service, he took part in both the Lebanon and Kuwait campaigns, answering the call of duty with honor and dedication. Coming from a strong military family, Eric was inspired by his father, a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant, to continue the legacy of service. His decision to join the Navy stemmed from a deep sense of duty and pride as an American citizen. Today, as Vice Commander, Eric remains committed to supporting veterans, strengthening his community, and upholding the values of patriotism and service that have guided him throughout his life.

 

Chaplain

William Yon

Chaplain William Yan is a United States Air Force veteran and longtime community pastor. He served in the Air Force from 1967 to 1971, including tours in Vietnam (1967–1968) and Thailand, where he supported mission operations during the Vietnam War. After completing his military service, Chaplain Yan answered his calling to ministry. He has been a pastor for 48 years, dedicating 40 of those years to serving the Whitmire community. Known for his compassion, steady leadership, and deep commitment to faith, he continues to guide and support veterans, families, and neighbors through his ministry.

 

Chaplain Yan’s life reflects a legacy of service—both to his country and to his community.
