PRESIDENT
Debra Valiante
Deborah Valiante grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia, just minutes from Naval Station Norfolk—the home of the Atlantic Fleet and the world’s largest naval base. Surrounded by a community where nearly everyone was active-duty military, retired, or working in support roles, she learned from an early age to respect and appreciate the sacrifices of America’s servicemen and women. Military life has always been part of her family as well: her husband Eric served in the U.S. Navy, along with her father, brother, two nephews, and father-in-law. Deborah was first drawn to the American Legion when her husband joined. After spending her whole life around military families, she understood both the pride veterans carry and the emotional and physical burdens many of them face. Joining the American Legion Auxiliary gave her a meaningful way to support these brave men and women and to honor the service they have given the nation. From her earliest days with the Auxiliary, Deborah was inspired by its strong commitment to serving the local community—a value that resonated deeply with her. When her husband became Vice Commander of Post 70 in Whitmire, she saw that the post did not yet have an Auxiliary unit. Feeling called to serve, she took the initiative to establish one. Deborah recognizes the pride Whitmire has in its schools, traditions, and close-knit community. She is honored to contribute to this spirit of service and is dedicated to supporting both veterans and the town she has grown to love.
VICE PRESIDENT
Tiffany Hueble
Tiffany Hueble proudly serves as the Vice President of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 70, where she is dedicated to supporting veterans, their families, and the Whitmire community. Her commitment is deeply rooted in her family’s legacy of service—her grandfather served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II, instilling in her a deep respect for those who protect our nation. Her interest in leadership and patriotism grew even stronger during her four years in the NJROTC program in high school. There, she learned discipline, teamwork, and the importance of community service—values that continue to guide her work today. In her role with Auxiliary Unit 70, Tiffany helps organize programs and events that honor veterans, promote patriotism, and provide support to those in need. She is especially passionate about encouraging young people to appreciate the sacrifices made by service members and to become active members of their community. Whether she is working on veteran outreach, helping at local events, or supporting school and town initiatives, Tiffany strives to give back with the same dedication her family has shown for generations. She believes that honoring veterans is both a responsibility and a privilege, and she hopes to inspire others to carry forward the spirit of service.
Chaplain
Melissa Stevens
Melissa Stevens Comes from a proud military family, Melissa’s love for service and country runs deep. Her father served in the original National Guard unit in Whitmire, and her family’s military legacy continues through many of her maternal grandmother’s brothers—one of whom, Rupert, rose to the rank of Brigadier General in the National Guard. Melissa and her late husband, Randy, have always shared a strong sense of patriotism. In 2005, they joined the Patriot Guard Riders, finding a meaningful way to serve active-duty service members and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Now, as the Patriot Guard celebrates 20 years, Melissa continues that same mission of faith and encouragement through her role as Chaplain of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 70. Deeply devoted to her faith, Melissa sees her chaplaincy as a natural extension of her life’s purpose—to uplift others, offer comfort, and stand beside those who serve and their families. When encouraged by Debra to accept the position, she humbly agreed, knowing it was simply another way to live out her calling to serve.
